"Dear all,
On Thursday evening at 7.00pm, 22nd of November, 2007 the first annual MUAC Chocolate Milk Mile was held. The conditions were ideal for running - slightly cool with no wind. And the conditions were certainly ideal for drinking milk - but would they be ideal for consuming both at the same time?
The pre-race briefing and rules were delivered by Hamish into the video camera that would be broadcast live onto French national television. As the numbers started to build at trackside, so too did the speculations over who would win, who would throw up, and who was dumb enough to try this. A warm up lap was conducted where strategies were discussed, including which milk they had decided to go with. Some went with the traditional chocolate milk, others with strawberry, and one adventurous individual (Michael) mixed it up with strawberry, chocolate and two plain milks (a decision he later regretted). After pre-race photographs were taken and milks were lined up, the starter counted down... 3... 2... 1... DRINK!!!
Milk was sculled and spilled down the front of shirts, and there were cries from the crowd that had gathered - "that's disgusting!!". As the race progressed two runners and milk drinkers emerged as the leaders, Hamish and Fred. They went neck and neck all the way to the line until Hamish put in a couple of large loping strides to take out the first MUAC chokie milk mile. D2, who claimed he could win the race backwards (and indeed tried to), would later confidently claim that next year the title would be his... the pressure is on!
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the annual MUAC chocolate milk mile. It was a very funny event and enjoyed by all - except perhaps the queasiness that followed.
The winner in what we believe to be a world record time was.....
1. Hamish Beaumont, - Time: 6mins 39secs.
2. Frederick Courage - Time: 6mins 40secs.
Disclaimer: No crying over spilled milk occurred during the staging of this event.
